Growing up in post-colonial Zimbabwe, Jedidah constantly heard messages suggesting she would be more beautiful if only her skin were lighter and her hair silkier. Secretly, she longed for white hair, but as she grew older, she discovered that beauty comes in many forms and, most importantly, from within.
As an African artist, Jedidah draws deep inspiration from her childhood experiences, a time when beauty ideals often excluded afro hair and dark skin. Her “Love My Fro” range celebrates the beauty and diversity of afro hair through realistic yet abstract portraits. Each piece delves into the rich heritage, history, and culture of the Black community, blending contemporary design with decorative storytelling.
African scenes and nature often feature prominently in Jedidah’s artwork, as do touches of Africa fabric, which she believes add depth, narrative, and distinctiveness to her creations.

Jedidah Chick is a Zimbabwean-born artist based in South West England.
