Queen Rasi ya Mwana of Lamu (Wall Art Africa)

An African Wall art painting of a queen known as Rasi ya Mwana of the kingdom of Lamu.   Her rule spanned from  1381 to 1390 and she was known for her might and courage.   Confronted with the unthinkable prospect of surrender, Queen Rasi ya Mwana made the ultimate sacrifice.   According to Shujaastories, this  was one final act of defiance and to preserve her dignity.
The beautiful island of Lamu is of the shore of Kenya and is part of the Swahili culture.   Today the island is renowned for being the longest established and best preserved traditional Swahili settlement and is a beautiful beach escape.
The queen is painted against a patterned background in tones of turquoise and blue.   Her  hair is shaved into a pattern and she is wearing a large tribal earing inspired by the Suri tribe.   This is a mixed media painting  and the earing is textured and has a 3D effect.
This artwork measures 50 cm in diameter.
