About the Artwork –
A beautiful Giclée print of a portrait of an African Woman with a multicoloured headwrap. Her eyes are shut as if in peace and contentment. Aptly entitled Serena which means peaceful, calm and tranquil. There is something about tying a beautiful African American headwrap which makes one feel a great sense of pride and majesty. The headwrap which originated in sub-Saharan Africa carried symbolic meaning in reference to spirituality, wealth, prosperity and class.
The artwork is on a black canvas with African fabric on the top and bottom as well as a spray paint effect in the background.
Part of a set of 3 all painted on a black canvas with painted edges and ready to hang with no need for a frame. They measure 50.5 cm x 40 cm.
This poem by Sri Chinmoy perfectly describes the message in the painting
“Peace
Silences the nightmares of the mind.
Peace
Feeds the dreams of the heart.”
