Queen Ranavalona of Merina III (African Queens Textured Art)

Rich umbers, muted golds and melancholic blues surround Queen Ranavalona III and the cheetah beside her, giving this round painting a reflective, emotional mood. It's a piece to spend time with rather than glance at. This 45 cm African queen painting would suit a bedroom, hallway or quiet corner of a living room.

The Story behind Queen Ranavalona III

Ranavalona III became Queen of Madagascar in 1883 and was the last sovereign of its kingdom. In 1897 the French exiled her, and the monarchy was abolished the following day. She held the throne through years of colonial pressure, and many people have never heard her name. As the final piece in Jedidah's Cheetah Queens of Merina series, this painting has a reflective mood. The cheetah beside her symbolises loyalty, awareness and adaptation, while the deep palette and layered texture evoke the weight of history and loss. Anyone who has watched something they love come to an end will recognise that feeling. The cheetah is an artistic choice rather than a historical detail.
