A tribal painting of a woman holding a wooden bowl and wearing Ankara material. The mixed media painting has a 3D feel with an impasto effect. She is wearing large hoop earrings, arm bracelets and an anklet with a 3d effect in metallic paint.
With this collection, Jedidah was going for a “multi dimensional” look with real African fabric hanging off the canvas and rich impasto. The use of fabric in artwork is quite common in Zimbabwe.
Jedidah recalls being given this material as a gift from an aunt visiting from Zambia when she was quite young. It was the school holidays and she had a friend staying. Jedidah’s aunt asked her to cut the fabric in half and share with her friend. Of course I was quite annoyed by this but obviously she followed instructions and shared! Jedidah has kept this material all these years and is now happy to share it with the world!
