Masalanabo Modjadji III reigned from 1895 to 1959 and was one of the most revered African queens in history. Known as the Rain Queen, she lived in seclusion deep within the forest, where she performed secretive rituals to control clouds and bring rainfall. The Rain Queen lineage is a sacred line of African queens from the Limpopo province of South Africa, celebrated for their mystical ability to influence the weather. This sacred status meant that the Rain Queen could not attend public events, and communication with her people was mediated through male counselors. She was not allowed to marry, and her children were fathered by male relatives. Upon her death, her eldest daughter would assume the throne, continuing the sacred traditions of the Rain Queens.
