Queen Mwana Masura of Lamu (Wall Art Africa) SOLD

£0.00

An African Wall art painting of a queen known as Mwana Masura of the kingdom of Lamu.   She was a regal figure who ruled over the mystical island of Siyu in the 15th century.   Not much is known about Queen Mwana Masura apart from her strength, wisdom and that she guided her people with strength and compassion.

The beautiful island of Lamu is located next to Kenya in the Indian Ocean and has centuries-old Swahili settlements.   Today the island is renowned for being the longest established and best preserved traditional Swahili settlement and is a beautiful beach escape.

The queen is painted against a patterned background in tones of turquoise and blue.   Her  hair is shaved into a pattern and she is wearing a large tribal earing inspired by the Suri tribe.   This is a mixed media painting  and the earing is textured and has a 3D effect.
This artwork measures 50 cm in diameter and has a twin piece.
